Historical Comparisons of Science

By: Steve Lawrence: History is chocked full of events highlighting scientific consensus of the times and almost all have been debunked. Lets take a stroll down history lane of how things may have been. In the late 15th century a Genoan by the name of Christopher Columbus had a theory the earth was round. Many common men, especially sailors, believed the earth was round due to the horizon when viewed aboard ship. Some scientists held this same belief but the prevailing thought of the scientific community was the earth was flat. These scientists held great influence over the leaders of countries throughout Europe. Columbus approached the Italian rulers and tried to convince them to let him find a new route to India by sailing west. The political advisers to the king convinced him this was a foolish idea and bordered on blasphemy. Disappointed, Columbus searched for other countries that may be receptive to his idea. With the help of others who held the same belief as himself, he revised his presentation. He requested and received an audience with Queen Isabel and King Ferdinand of Spain. He was introduced to the court along with the King and Queen’s political advisor, Alberto Gore’. Columbus rose and began to speak but was cut short by Senor Gore’. Senor Gore’ had been in contact with other political advisors in Italy and was prepared for Columbus. Senor Gore’ shouted, “The discussion is over, there is no more debate! Science has determined the earth is flat!”. The King seemed to accept this without giving Columbus a chance to pitch his plan. The Queen (we know who really runs things, don’t we) was intrigued and ordered Senor Gore’ to let Columbus speak. Columbus, being the savvy sailor appealed to the King and Queens’s greed and vanity of an elevated place in history for them both. The rest is history. Common Sense-1, science/politics-0. We now move along a few years to the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The prevailing science of the time shows science and politicians believed the earth to be the center of the universe. One gentleman, after much study, using the most advanced scientific equipment at the time determined the earth was not the center of the universe but actually revolved around the sun along with several other planets. Galileo's support for the heliocentric theory got him into trouble with the Roman Catholic Church. In 1633 the Inquisition led by Arnoldo Gore’ (distant relative to Alberto). During the hearing Arnoldo very passionately stated, “There is no more discussion, the debate is over, our learned scientists know without doubt the earth is the center of the universe. The Inquisition convicted him of heresy and forced him to recant (publicly withdraw) his support of Copernicus. They sentenced him to life imprisonment, but because of his advanced age allowed him serve his term under house arrest at his villa in Arcetri outside of Florence. As we now know Galileo was right. Common Sense-2, science/politics-0. We now move forward a couple of centuries. The United States is now an established democratic republic but still has a few problems. Many people wanted a color blind society and put forth the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This was a good piece of legislation which ensured ALL people would be afforded the same rights. The unsuccessful roadblock was the southern democrats. Could it have been Albert Arnold Gore Sr. addressing the Senate stating, “The debate is over, we have determined non-whites are not equal and do not deserve the same rights as the rest of us.” Fortunately, Gore later claimed that the 1964 vote was his biggest mistake. After realizing the error of his way (and afraid of losing votes, I’m sure) he did support the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Once again we see a pattern. Common Sense-3, science/politics-0. Jump ahead a few decades (past the 1970s global cooling alarmist era) to present time. Some scientists, with the help of some political figures have found a gold mine in global warming alarmism. Many of the scientists who promote this do not even work in the field of climatology or meteorology yet they have convinced the far left media that man is the cause of global warming by the emissions of CO2. Albert Arnold Gore Jr. very publicly said something to the effect, “There is no more debate, global warming is real and man is the reason for it.” Usually when one of these far left misinformed mouthpieces say the debate is over, its because when the true facts are brought to light, the lies they’ve told are exposed. Over 19,200 scientists have signed a petition stating global warming as presented by Al Gore is inaccurate, misrepresents the facts and doesn’t hold up to real science concerning global climate change. According to science the average American emits approximately 5 tons of carbon dioxide per year (almost 1/3 the amount Mr. Gore uses for one private jet flight). The average Chinese is almost double that. Think about that for a moment. These far left morons want us to sign the severely flawed Kyoto Protocols which severely impact the United States but give China a pass because it’s a “developing country”. China has over 4 times the population as the US. Even if they were emitting the same CO2 per person as the US, they would still be pumping out four times the amount we do. At their current rate its about 8 times ours. That would be considered a major item of interest. The actual science of carbon dioxide indicates very solid evidence CO2 does not have a significant impact on climate change. Remember a few years ago when the alarmists were yelling about sulfur dioxide destroying the ozone and man was the cause of it? These alarmists shut up when science showed active volcanoes emitted thousands of times more sulfur dioxide than all our vehicles, power plants and all other man made emissions. Scientists in England have been studying volcanoes and found a fairly recent eruption emitting enough sulfur dioxide to actually blow a hole in the ozone layer directly above the volcano. This ozone hole lasted about 2 weeks. Nature finally repaired the hole, as is nature’s way with these things. Low and behold, what did nature use to repair this ozone hole? CARBON DIOXIDE! Science has been distorted to try and disprove God’s existence. The underlying reason these elitists (especially the United Nations crowd) believe man is responsible for global anything and man can correct it, then they believe this negates the existence of God (If there is no God then man is the one who gives you rights and man has the power to take your rights). The scientific evidence goes on and on to disprove what these alarmists are spouting. One thing is for sure, there is a lot of money to be made concerning the global warming alarmists. There is also a lot of opportunity for these elitists to impose restrictions on our freedoms and private property. According to Kyoto Protocols and the inaccurate computer simulation model if we enacted all provisions it would take over a century to see results if any. Real scientists are saying there will be a general cooling within the next 5 to 15 years based on historical scientific evidence. I will offer this prediction. When the cooling is evident, the global warming alarmists will shout as loudly as possible that the measures man has taken is responsible for the reverse of global warming. Anyone who believes this propaganda should do us all a favor in decreasing carbon dioxide by holding their breath forever. When the cooling begins it will be Common sense-4, science/politics-0

THE OTHER U.S.O.

By: Steve Lawrence: The United Services Organization has done a great job at boosting the morale of U.S. troops. Bob Hope was a big promoter and participant in touring to help raise our troops morale. Currently, there are many celebrities touring with the USO for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. I served in the Persian Gulf War in 1990-1991 and know first hand of the benefits our troops receive from the USO and the uplift it provides reinvigorating our resolve to fight the enemy. President Bush ordered a surge of our troops in Iraq bolstering the chance of success. Our troops have been performing magnificently and the surge was succeeding. This was great news for Americans but bad news for those in Washington who wants to see the U.S. defeated. While some Americans question the current War on Terror, the majority understand its necessity. Its okay to question our government and demand answers. There is a distinct line that divides patriotic dissent and outright treason. Unfortunately, some of our politicians have blatantly crossed that line. This is where the other U.S.O comes in. These treasonous acts have provided aid and comfort to terrorists around the world. Nancy Pelosi took it upon herself to travel to a known terrorist state (where you and I are forbidden to travel) against the request of the White House. Not only did she travel to Syria in violation of the Logan Act but she misrepresented the Israeli government to the leader of Syria. This USO is known as “UNBELIEVEABLY STUPID OPPOSITION”. Her visit served to give the terrorists a huge boost in morale. This visit reinvigorated the insurgents in Iraq and terrorists around the world. Within a few days after her visit the worst attacks on the coalition forces occurred. Harry Reid made a very public announcement stating the “War is Lost”. This was another morale boost for the insurgents/terrorists and once again bolstered the morale of the enemy. Other self serving politicians and celebrities have aligned themselves with this crowd. Instead of supporting our troops, they, with the help of the far left media, have attacked our troops and misreported or failed to report the truth. These treasonous acts in a time of war must be dealt with appropriately. This other USO cares not for the United States citizens or the protection of our freedoms but promote the defeatist mentality and circumventing the current administration. You may ask, “What can be done”? The answer is simple, impeach, prosecute and incarcerate these traitors. Some may say these people have been patriots before the war on terror began. Just remember, Benedict Arnold was a patriot before he was a traitor. Perhaps if the conservative members of congress treated these traitors the same as he we could actually win this war on terror.

Book Reviews

"Steve Lawrence contacted me recently regarding his self-published book, The Making of a Police State: The Socialist Agenda for America ($23.95. Trafford). I am not a big fan of self-published books and those with a particular political agenda often scream at you off the page no matter what their liberal or conservative orientation may be, but I maintain an open door policy here at Bookviews, so I said, yes send me a copy. In terms of its production values, this is a most modest book, but the author has done some serious research to support his view that many of the freedoms built into the U.S. Constitution are being whittled away. Attacks on property rights and the indoctrination of children in our schools make headlines daily, the sincerity of Lawrence no doubt comes from his 22 years of service in the U.S. military where he lived in six different countries, and sometimes observing what life is like without the freedoms we take for granted.
